Holly Hunter is an American actress and producer well recognized for her high-quality performance in films such as Broadcast News The Firm The Piano and The Incredibles. The movie Piano earned her numerous awards including an Oscar. Her acting career began on Broadway by performing in a range of Broadway as well as Off Broadway projects. As a child, Helen Keller was her most loved character from a fifth grade play. The mumps that she contracted left her blind and deaf in the one ear. However, she refused to let that hinder her progress as an actor. The college she attended was drama after which she moved to Pittsburgh to New York City to follow her goals. Hunter made her Broadway debut after an accidental conversation in the company of Beth Henley, a playwright. The two worked together for Broadway Crimes of the Heart. After she was settled in Los Angeles, she began looking for roles in films. Her first film role was as an actress who played the leading character Swing Shift. In the last three decades, she has appeared on numerous TV shows and films. Holly Hunter was awarded a Hollywood Walk of Fame Star as well as the Women in Film Lucy Award.
